Paris Hilton’s celebrity started with a party, and it looks like the beginning of the end is starting with one as well. In the midst of the post-Oscar feeding frenzy, there’s one story worth noting - Paris Hilton, the A-List party goer wasn’t invited to the party for the A-List.
The disrespect for the hotel heiress began with Robert Redford’s comments about how his vision of Sundance has changed over the years. He didn’t want her there, not in his land of independent film.
That’s actually pretty understandable. Redford’s vision never really included party girls who were celluloid wannabes. He wanted deeper expressions of cinematic art far removed from the Hollywood scene.
But now Hollywood itself seems to be lumping Paris into Tara Reid’s group. She’s like the party girl in high school who was really cool until everyone graduated and realized she was just a young woman with a drinking problem.
To make matters worse, the recent restraining order against Paris could put a pinch on those parties that made her famous. It isn’t just the dance she’ll have to do to stay 25 feet from another attendee. It’s the whole idea that other people, be it the head of Vanity Fair or some relatively unknown party planner, are telling Paris what to do. One of Paris’ strongest selling points is that she is an heiress. She goes where she wants, when she wants. Those days are over.
The other factor against Paris is her age. Paris is 25 now, and, to paraphrase Jessica Simpson, that’s like her mid 20’s. The big 3-0 is right on the horizon, and the whole promiscuous party princess act is going to sell about as well as disco did after 1981.
Well, it was a good ride while it lasted. I’m not good at solutions, but Paris could make a turn to the right. Time to grow up - or at least pretend you did. A limited amount of maturity goes a long ways - even in Hollywood.
